Rosina Gaudio is a mixed media polymer clay artist who creates magical, mystical creatures from natural forms. She uses polymer clay and other media along with roots, branches, wood and other natural materials. Then she sculpts a face or body of a creature that seems to come from and lives within the wood. Originally from Italy, Rosina lives with her family in Portugal.
While Rosina is sculpting and adding the faces onto the wood, she does it in a way that makes you feel that she’s uncovered the magic that was already there. You can feel the personality of each one and can only begin to wonder what its story is. In fact, story is a big part of her work. Have a look at her website and see what I mean. This is magic.
I love that...
Rosina uses polymer clay to create the creature that already seems to be in the wood itself. Of course we know it wasn’t there before she created a face, but it somehow feels just right. Natural. And I’m always amazed how slight changes in facial expression can convey so much emotion.
